Honestly, I created this advert for fun! If I had a client who asked for a blackberry advert… they wouldn’t get this for sure! I was looking around for inspiration, and received a text. I remembered looking for hours at fake phone adverts on an art site, and loving them!

I know I took this a little too far, though! I was completely in the zone, adding element after element, and evidently in a girly mood. I didn’t say I’d have to do a perfect design every day, did I?

I’ve not been updating here often as most of my design work hasn’t been finished! But I’ve just completed the comments form for this blog, so that could count for today! I especially love creating pixel images so am very tempted to make a submit button in the same style for tomorrow or another day. I’ve had so many idea spinning around my head that I could design, but at the moment I don’t have the bottle to start. Perhaps later in this project I will do so.

I am finding it especially hard to design something every single day, as designing is usually an output of all bad energy for me. If I want to turn this into a career I need to stop this. It is also hard to balance designing with my other passion (or trainee passion perhaps!), developing. I have the urge to create a site from scratch a lot. Can someone invent a machine giving me more than twenty four hours in a day please? Thanks.

Day two of the daily challenge, and I have indeed come up with something! Hurrah. I am decorating my room at the moment, and I’m using some very earthy colours, so I thought why not make a tribute? I rustled through some of my photography and found a little butterfly. Isn’t he beautiful? He was of course the perfect header.

After three hours of playing about in Paint Shop Pro 8 (and then moving over to Photoshop, surprisingly!) from 11am to 2pm, here is what I came up with. The images in the example text are illustrations I did years ago, which is quite fun I think! The strong points of this design are the colours, however I do think that the layout needs refining.

A Daily Design

I recently stumbled upon Smashing Magazine’s article about designing something every single day. For an incredible procrastinator like myself, it is the ultimate challenge – let’s get a super hero cape on that phrase in our imaginations. I want to stretch myself, and be able to readily design something without putting so much thought into each piece. I also hope that it will improve the amount of ideas I get, so I don’t have to go through such a gruelling creative process!

Naturally, I waited a few months from reading the article, cowering from the fear of failure, design competency and generally shrivelling at the thought of doing something productive every day – it would be like a job! As time went by, the design addict inside me questioned why I didn’t jump at the chance and start a blog to document the process. Why didn’t I? I hadn’t got a blog design, of course.

I am hesitant to admit that now I do, and have done for quite a while, being scared at productiveness is simply not good enough for a portion of me. I am going to laugh in the face of fear and go through with it anyway. Am I mad?

We shall see. I shakily cut the ribbon on this blog and hope for the best. Comments may provide motivation, so are appreciated!
